Manchester Farm
Half barn, half house. 1400 square-foot hobby farm home in Manchester, Georgia.
Contractor : Owner Builder
Manchester Farm is a hybrid barn and home, purposefully designed to support both everyday living and the working rhythms of a small family farm. Set within acres of open farmland, the project embraces its rural context, with long views across rolling fields shaping both the layout and the architectural expression.
The home is divided into two distinct yet connected zones. One side functions as the primary residence, containing two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a central living space designed for comfortable daily life. The other side of the structure is dedicated to the operational needs of the hobby farm, providing storage, workspace, and office areas that support equipment, supplies, and farm management.
Inspired by traditional monitor barn forms, the architecture balances agricultural character with modern detailing. The simple massing, durable materials, and restrained palette allow the building to sit naturally within the landscape, while generous openings frame expansive views of the surrounding farmland and bring daylight deep into both the living and working spaces.
Manchester Farm reflects a pragmatic approach to custom home design, where lifestyle, land use, and architecture are closely aligned. The result is a versatile rural structure that functions equally well as a home, a workspace, and a working part of the land it inhabits.
